VFW National Home attains Gold-Level Veteran Friendly Employer status with the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency

- 7/12/2023

Eaton Rapids, MI July 12, 2023 – The VFW National Home has received the Gold-level Veteran-Friendly Employer Award from the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA).

The VFW National Home achieved Silver-Level Veteran-Friendly Employer status in July of 2022 and since then has added additional veteran-friendly programs such as veteran focused hiring and on-boarding processes, a veteran specific benefit package that includes 40 additional vacation hours a year for Veteran focused appointments, health coverage for currently serving Guard/Reserve members that are activated, and a monthly veteran spouse support group.

"We are an organization that supports veterans, it only makes sense that we not only employ veterans but give them the tools they need to be successful in their jobs as well as improve their quality of life. "said VFW National Home Executive Director Michael Wilson.

"Our veterans have already given a portion of their lives in the defense of our great nation; we owe it to them to create an environment where they can enjoy coming to work while also removing barriers to support from other organizations.  I am proud and thankful to be able to serve them as they have served us so bravely” adds Wilson.

More than 500 organizations across Michigan are recognized at the bronze, silver, or gold level with the MVAA. The National Home is one of twenty-six organizations at the Gold-Level.

About the VFW National Home

The VFW National Home assists military, veterans, and their families with children, by creating a foundation of services and resources to achieve their personal and family goals in order to move forward in a positive, safe, and healthy environment.

Our mission is accomplished through case managers working closely with families to set and achieve goals which are designed to provide the family with the tools to create a solid home life for their children once they exit our program.

The National Home has 42 single family homes and is predominantly funded by individuals and organizations (such as the VFW, its Auxiliaries) as well as businesses and corporations that support veteran causes.
